The Alsop Family

The Alsop family made major contributions to the fabric of Lorne, as butchers, timber worker, as members and chiefs of the fire brigade, as presidents of the surf club and historical society.

Alsop’s working in the timber industry.

Beryl Alsop, née Golding, came to Lorne in 1937 and stayed at Yendalloch and met and married Bert Alsop, a butcher and carpenter. Beryl recalls having 40 years of bliss in her marriage with Bert, before he suddenly died at the age of 66. The “Bert Alsop Track” on the foreshore at North Lorne was named in honour of Bert Alsop.
