Erskine Bridge
In the early days coaches would use a ford to cross the Erskine River coming in from Deans Marsh. The ford allowed the horses to have a drink of water and cool their feet after an arduous journey over Mount Benwerrin to Lorne. In 1898 a wooden bridge was built across the Erskine River. In 1946, a concrete bridge replaced the old timber bridge.

- Visitor Information Centre
In his booklet “Lorne A Living History” by Doug Stirling, we read that the power station, owned by Winchelsea Shire Council, was used to provide lighting for Lorne in about 1920. Bob Reid, the first engineer, planted an oak tree which is still standing in front of today’s Visitor Information Centre. The power plant generated 240 volt DC power and operated until it closed in 1936, when the State Electrical Commission connected the 240 volt AC power supply.
