Cypress Avenue was named after the planting of the Monterey cypress trees in 1932. Doug Stirling recalled that, David Witcombe planted the tree for Hector Stribling who was the owner of Erskine House at the time.

Cypress Avenue runs parallel to the beach in front of Mantra (Erskine House) and can be entered from the lower Grove Road at the south end or from the north end near the Swing Bridge.
