St Cuthberts Church was built in 1892 by Andrew Sanger, uncle of Doug Stirling. It was built with baltic pine that arrived in Lorne in Australia as ballast on ships coming from Europe. It also used red pine that was sent out from America for architrave and skirting boards, all hand-planed on the spot.
In the 1950s the large Lamberta pines around the property were making a shady dismal atmosphere and were cut down.
In 1997 St Cuthberts became the Uniting Church. The manse was built in 1928 from community donations. Behind the Church is the Sunday School hall. In the 1960s and 1970s as many as 35 pupils attended the Sunday School.
St Cuthberts was classified by the National Trust in 1975.
